There are very few records of anyone from the Parish serving in the armed forces until the start of the 20th Century. Prior to the Boer War the Parish contributed very little to the military perhaps because it was centrally located and the idea of a foreign threat seemed far away. Occasionally in the census there will be a Chelsea Pensioner – there are three for instance on the 1841 census who probably fought in the Napoleonic War.
