Marriages up to 1837

These records are a combination of the marriage records with the banns records. Witnesses, generally two people although occasionally more, were not originally required to sign the register. In the columns for witnesses the presence of an x e.g. George x Turner indicates that the person could not (or chose not to) sign their name but made a cross or some other such mark.
